What's in McLaren Brake Discs?

The brake disc, also referred to as the rotor, is a critical component of a vehicle’s braking system. Typically made of cast iron or composite materials, it is attached to the wheel hub. When the brake pedal is pressed, calipers squeeze the pads against the disc, generating friction that converts kinetic energy into heat, slowing or stopping the vehicle. Discs can be solid, vented, drilled, or slotted, each design improving cooling, durability, or performance. High-performance brake discs withstand extreme heat and resist warping, making them essential for sports and heavy-duty vehicles.

Where it is located in the car? How should it be properly maintained?

Brake discs are mounted on the wheel hubs, between the wheels and the brake calipers. Most modern cars use discs on all four wheels, while some older or budget vehicles may combine front discs with rear drums. Maintenance involves inspecting for cracks, scoring, excessive thinning, or warping. Vibrations during braking may indicate warped discs requiring resurfacing or replacement. Discs should always be replaced in pairs to maintain balance. Avoid heavy braking from high speeds and allow cooling after intense use to extend lifespan.
