The brakes are one of the most critical safety systems in any vehicle, designed to slow down or completely stop the car when required. This system works by converting the vehicle’s kinetic energy into heat through friction. Most modern cars use a combination of disc brakes and, in some cases, drum brakes. The brake system comprises several key components, including brake pads, brake discs (rotors), calipers, brake lines, and a master cylinder. When the driver presses the brake pedal, hydraulic fluid transmits force to the calipers, pressing the pads against the discs to generate friction and reduce speed. The brake components are located at each wheel of the vehicle. In disc systems, the brake disc is mounted to the wheel hub and the caliper assembly clamps onto it when braking.
